About the Pender Islands
The Pender Islands consist of two main islands, North Pender and South Pender, connected by a historic one-lane wooden bridge built in 1955. Together they form a single community of approximately 2,200 permanent residents.
The main settlement is on North Pender, where the ferry arrives at Otter Bay. Here you will find a general store, a post office, a pharmacy, a library, and a community centre. South Pender is quieter and more rural, with a handful of homes and farms. The bridge between them is a beloved local landmark.
Life on the Penders
Life on the Pender Islands is relaxed and family-oriented. The pace is slow, the roads are quiet, and the natural environment is beautiful. Kayaking, hiking, and boating are popular pastimes. Beaumont Marine Park on South Pender offers excellent hiking trails through old-growth forest to a pebble beach with views of the surrounding islands.

How to Get to the Pender Islands
BC Ferries serves North Pender from Swartz Bay (Victoria) at Otter Bay, with a crossing time of around 60 minutes. The ferry from Tsawwassen also calls at Otter Bay. The islands can also be reached by float plane, with flights landing at Otter Bay.
